HELLO TO ME
Finding your voice, finding your way.
Hello To Me is an 8-week prevention and early intervention mental health program, developed by Genevieve Morrissey (B.A. Counselling), which is open to adults of any age and gender. It is designed to facilitate growth in our most basic emotional and cognitive needs. It is aimed at anyone who is feeling stuck, numb, unfulfilled, stressed, anxious, directionless or lacking in confidence, for whatever reason, whether that’s in their relationship with other people, in their job or in their life generally.
Although these feelings can develop for a multitude of reasons, thought patterns and belief structures are often at the heart of the matter. Over time and with input from our families, communities and culture in general, we can create misrepresentations/ falsehoods about who we really are. When left unchecked, and with the right stressors, these can unconsciously prejudice our everyday decision-making, which in turn affects how we live, love, learn and play.
Hello To Me covers a range of vital emotional life skills to help participants gain an insight into the patterns and behaviours that are not serving them and to give them the awareness to challenge negative, irrational, self-sabotaging thoughts and long-held self-destructive beliefs, to build their resilience and to find the confidence to change.
Each course comprises 8 sessions run over 8 weeks. The sessions are 2 hours long with a 15-minute break in the middle for refreshments. Participants can register directly or be referred by a healthcare provider.
The program is run as a closed group with up to 10 people. This means that the participants work with the same people each week, which is great for building trust, sharing new insights and supporting each other. There are two facilitators guiding them through the program.
The duration of the program, 8 weeks, allows time for participants to develop a stronger understanding of their needs by integrating changes into their day-to-day experiences. As members of a closed group, participants receive benefit in seeing themselves in others and gain reassuring awareness that they are not alone. As their ability to communicate expands, it becomes far easier to workshop the challenges and triumphs they experience and to uncover how their needs can be met in the safety of a group. With new strategies, new information and the group’s support, new patterns of thinking and behaving occur as participants start rewiring their brain and feel more connected to themselves, strengthening their emotional and mental wellbeing and resilience in life.
